Men’s Soccer Dismantles UMPI 4-0

Presque Isle, ME – Men's Soccer dismantled the University of Maine Presque Isle 4-0 on Saturday, September 30th, 2023. 

Thomas College: Overall (4-3-5), NAC (2-0)
University of Maine Presque Isle: Overall (0-7-1), NAC (0-2)

How it Happened:  
  • The Owls had the first two shots of the game, but both sailed wide of the Terrier net. 
  • In the 9th minute, Joshua Joseph capitalized on a pass from Julen Zuidervaart, to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Both teams traded shots in the 34th minute, but neither could find their target.
  • In the 39th minute, the Terriers took control. Shots from Harry Clough, Andrew Hodgins, and Isak Granstrom were either saved by Owl goalkeeper Xavier McAtee, or hit the post.
  • In the 46th minute, Joseph converted a penalty kick to take a commanding 2-0 lead, and the Terriers never looked back.
  • In the 57th minute, Micky Woodrow scored an unassisted goal, to stretch the lead to three goals. 
  • Less than a minute later, Joseph sent a pass in to Daud Abdi, who scored to take a 4-0 lead.
  • The Terriers generated a few more chances with the remaining time left. Craig Coventry had his shot saved by McAtee in the 65th minute. 
  • Later on, Clough would take a shot that sailed right of the Owls goal.
  • The Terriers dominated the second half, outshooting the Owls 8-3 in that time, which lead to an impressive 4-0 win.
The Goalkeepers:  
Jayce Nielsen played all 90 minutes in net for the Terriers, only needing to make one save.

Owl goalkeeper McAtee also played the full 90 minutes, making four saves. 
 
What's Next:
The Terriers will travel to take on North Atlantic Conference rival University of Maine Farmington on October 4th, 2023. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
