Men’s Soccer Falls to Undefeated Bowdoin College

Brunswick, ME – Men's Soccer fell 0-11 to an undefeated Bowdoin College squad on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023. 

Thomas College: Overall (3-3-5), NAC (1-0-0)
Bowdoin College: Overall (6-0-2), NESCAC (2-0-2)

How it Happened:  
  • The Terriers were solid defensively to start the contest. This led to a shot in the third minute from Craig Coventry, which sailed wide of the Polar Bear net.
  • In the next minute, A Bowdoin shot on frame forced a good save out of Terrier goalkeeper Matthew Gosselin.
  • Three minutes later, Gosselin was forced to make another save to keep the score tied at 0-0.
  • The Polar Bears had three more shots, but didn't cash in until the 14th minute, when they scored to take a 1-0, never looking back.
  • They would strike four minutes later, and again in the 22nd minute to take a 3-0 lead.
  • In the 27th and 41st minutes, Gosselin was forced to make two good saves.
  • The Terriers went into halftime down 0-8, which put the game out of reach.
  • However, the Terriers did play much better in the second half. The Terriers held the Polar Bears goalless for the first eight minutes, thanks to three good saves from Terrier goalkeeper Keein Wright.
  • In the 66th minute, Harry Clough put a shot on goal, which forced a save out of Bowdoin goalkeeper Grant Griesman. 
  • The Polar Bears would go on to score their last goal in the 74th minute, to make the scoreline 0-11.
  • The Terriers held the Polar Bears goalless for the final 16 minutes, tied for their longest stretch of the game without a goal.
  • The Polar Bears outshot the Terries 37-3 on the day.
 
The Goalkeepers:  
Three Terrier goalkeepers saw time in net today. Gosselin started the game, playing 45 minutes and making five saves. Wright played 30 minutes, making an impressive seven saves in that time. Jayce Nielsen played the final 15 minutes, making one save. 

Two Bowdoin goalkeepers suited up in between the posts today. Alex Ainsworth started, not needing to make a save in 45 minutes played. Griesman played the second half, making one save. 
 
What's Next:
The Terriers will look to bounce back as they travel to Presque Isle, Maine to take on the University of Maine Presque Isle on September 30th, 2023. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
