Men’s Soccer Battles for Hard-Fought Draw Against University of Maine Farmington

Waterville, ME – Men's Soccer battled for a hard-fought 1-1 draw against University of Maine Farmington on Tuesday, September 19th, 2023. 

Thomas College: Overall (1-2-4), NAC (0-0)

University of Maine Farmington: Overall (3-3-1) NAC (0-0)

How it Happened:  
  • The Beavers got off to a quick start, finding the back of the net within four minutes of the first half. 
  • The Terriers responded in the next eight minutes with three shots of their own, but none finding the net. 
  • In the 18th minute, Joshua Joseph had a chance to tie the game, but his shot was cleared off the line by a Beaver defender. 
  • In the 36th minute, Daud Abdi slid in a ball into the path of Joseph, who found the bottom left corner to tie the game up 1-1.
  • The Beavers came out of the second half with more energy, with two shots forcing two good saves from Terriers' goalkeeper Jayce Nielsen.
  • In the 54th minute, two red cards were given, one for each team. This made the remainder of the game 10 versus 10.
  • By the 66th minute, the Terriers were able to generate three more shots, but none were on target.
  • With only seven minutes left to play, the Beavers generated a shot that would've found the bottom left corner. Nielsen sprung to his left and denied the opportunity, saving what would've been the winning goal.
  • With not much time left, the Terriers were able to secure the 1-1 draw.
  • The Terriers outshot the Beavers 15-12, making for an extremely entertaining contest. 
  • There were a total of 24 fouls in the game, and six cards given (four yellow, two red).
 
The Goalkeepers:  
Two Terriers' goalkeepers saw time in net tonight. Matthew Gosselin got the start, making one save. Nielsen played the second half, making three important saves.

Two Beavers' goalkeepers also saw time in net. Jack Wormald played the first 45 minutes, making one save. Jackson Leach played the entire second half, making one save. 
 
What's Next:
The Terriers will take on Lesley University at home on Saturday, September 23, 2023. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
