Men's Soccer Comes Up Short Versus SUNY Canton

Waterville, ME – Men's Soccer was unable to find the back of the net, and came up short as they dropped a match versus SUNY Canton 0-2 on Saturday, October 7th, 2023. 

Thomas College: Overall (4-5-5), NAC (2-2-0)
SUNY Canton: Overall (3-7-1) NAC (1-2-1)

How it Happened:  
  • The Terriers started the game well, generating three shots within the first 9 minutes. Daud Abdi's shot forced a save from SUNY Canton Goalkeeper Owen Kwong.
  • However, SUNY Canton took the momentum when they scored in the 12th minute.
  • The Terriers responded with a shot from Andrew Poulin six minutes later, but it was saved again by Kwong.
  • The Terrier defense held strong, only allowing a few shots in the first half.
  • The second half was a defensive battle, with only one combined shot in the first 25 minutes of the second half.
  • In the 72nd minute, Cole Washburn's attempt on goal was saved again by Kwong.
  • Three minutes later, Micky Woodrow beat two defenders and fired a shot, but Kwong made a jumping save to deny the chance.
  • In the 81st minute, SUNY Canton doubled their lead, leaving only nine minutes left for the Terriers to try and turn the game around.
  • The Terriers were only able to generate one shot in the remaining time, and the game ended 0-2.
  • The Terriers were outshot 11-8, and eight yellow cards were given out.
 
The Goalkeepers:  
Matthew Gosselin got the start, playing the entire 90 minute in net, making three saves.

SUNY Canton goalkeeper Kwong also played all 90 minutes, making six saves. 
 
What's Next:
The Terriers will look to bounce back at home against Vermont State University Johnson on Sunday, October 8th, 2023. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
