Waterville, ME – Men's Soccer got off to a fast start, but it wasn't enough as they fell 2-3 to Maine Maritime Academy on Wednesday, October 18
th, 2023.

How it Happened:
- The Terriers wasted no time starting the game. In the first minute, Micky Woodrow sent in a through ball to Joshua Joseph, who calmly placed the ball in the bottom left corner of the Mariner net to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Terriers looked to add another a few minutes later, as Daud Abdi found a pocket of space. Mariner goalkeeper Reagan Moynihan lunged to his right to rob Abdi of a goal.
- Abdi would get another chance in the 24th minute, off of a great cross from Craig Coventry. Abdi headed the ball into the back of the net, to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
- However, the Mariners responded. Less than four minutes later a volley from a Mariner found the back of the net, and cut the lead to one.
- The Terriers would get another chance in the 34th minute, but Coventry's shot was saved by Moynihan, once again coming up big.
- The Terriers took a 2-1 lead into halftime.
- In the 50th minute, a Mariner shot struck the Terrier post, denying a golden chance.
- The Terriers marched down the field after the Mariner shot, and Moynihan was forced to make two important saves in less than 20 seconds.
- The Terriers would get a red card in the 53rd minute and played a man down for the rest of the game.
- However, the Terriers were awarded a penalty kick in the 59th minute. The effort sailed high, and the score remained 2-1.
- The Mariners took advantage of the Terrier shortcomings, scoring in the 65th minute to tie the game at two apiece.
- The Terriers couldn't hang on, as the Mariners scored again three minutes later to take a 3-2 lead.
- In the 79th minute, a scramble in front of the Terrier net ensued. Terrier goalkeeper Matthew Gosselin was forced to make two good saves, and a third Mariner effort was cleared off the goal line.
- The Terriers took control of the remaining time left, having a flurry of chances.
- Moynihan was forced to make three crucial saves in the final eight minutes to secure the 3-2 win for the Mariners.
- The Terriers were outshot 22-16 in a thrilling matchup.
The Goalkeepers:
Gosselin played 90 minutes in net for the Terriers, making five saves
Mariner goalkeeper Moynihan also played all 90 minutes, making nine important saves to seal the win for the Mariners.

The Terriers will look to bounce back in their final regular season game against Husson University at home, on October 21
st, 2023. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
