Men’s Soccer Outdueled by Husson in Harsh Conditions on Senior Night

Waterville, ME – Men's Soccer was outdueled by Husson University in pouring rain and high winds on senior night, falling 1-3 on Saturday, October 21st, 2023.

How it Happened:  
  • The Terriers largely dominated the first 10 minutes, with Joshua Joseph forcing Alex Rechsteiner to make two good saves. 
  • The Eagles struck first in the 16th minute, taking a 1-0 lead over the Terriers.
  • One minute later, Kris Loubier's shot forced another save out of Rechsteiner.
  • In the 27th minute, Carter Pelletier found Joseph, who scored to the the game up at one goal apiece.
  • The Eagles didn't let momentum stop them and scored in the 33rd minute to take back the lead.
  • The Eagles added another in the 40th minute, but four minutes later would pick up a red card, playing a man down for the entire second half.
  • At this point in the game, heavy rain and high winds affected the rhythm of play for both teams. 
  • In the 58th minute, Jack Thompson took a long range shot, but the effort was saved by Samuel Bermudez.
  • Matthew Gosselin followed that up with a save of his own a minute later, denying an Eagle chance.
  • Both teams struggled to maintain control of the ball in the remaining time, as the conditions continued to worsen.
  • The Terriers were unable to take advantage of playing a player up, and the game ended in a 1-3 loss.
  • The Terriers were outshot 18-11 in an extremely competitive game.
  • A combination of eight cards were given, seven yellow cards and one red card.
  • Graduate Student Hunter Smith played 68 minutes, providing steady leadership on the Terriers defensive line.
 
The Goalkeepers:  

Senior Jayce Nielsen got the start, making one save in 45 minutes of action. Gosselin played the entire second half, making two saves. 

Two Eagle goalkeepers saw time in net tonight. Rechsteiner played the entire first half, making six saves. Bermudez came in to play the second half, making one save. 

What's Next:

The Terriers will look to bounce back in the playoffs. The NAC tournament begins October 28th, 2023. Time and location is to be determined.
