LEWISTON, Maine - Thomas softball was swept by Bates College in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon in part to strong pitching by the Bobcats.
Game 1: Thomas 0 Bates 5
The Bobcats held the Terriers scoreless in the first game. Bates was able to put a run on the board in both the second and third innings before scoring three in the fourth inning.
Thomas was held to just two hits in the game by Bobcat pitcher Maggie Hillwig.
Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine) and
Riley Giblin (Bristol, Conn.) each got a hit for the Terriers.
Jordan Devine (Belgrade, Maine) pitched a complete game for Thomas, picking up the loss.
Game 2: Thomas 1 Bates 3
Thomas was able to find more offense in the second game, getting five hits but was unable to turn them into runs. Bates took the lead in the third inning when they were able to bring home a run. They added two more insurance runs in the sixth inning.
Thomas got one run back when Currier singled to left field to score
Makayla Panich (Windham, N.H.) but that was the only run they were able to muster, as they fell to the Bobcats 3-1.
Currier pitched the entire game for the Terriers, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four. She also had two of the five hits for Thomas. Panich also contributed two hits while
Bailey Dunphy (North Anson, Maine) picked up one.
The Bobcats got another strong pitching performance, this time from Danielle Polirer. She pitched a complete game, allowing one run on five hits while striking out eight.
UP NEXT: The Terriers start their conference play on Saturday at home with a doubleheader against the University of Maine at Farmington. Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two starting at 3 p.m.
