WATERVILLE, Maine - Thomas baseball capped off their regular season with two wins against the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon.
Game One: Thomas 15 UMPI 3
Thomas wasted no time, grabbing the lead, scoring five runs in the first inning.
Tony Meza (Los Angeles, Calif.) drove in the first run with a hard ground ball to right field.
DJ Cagnina (South Berwick, Maine) followed that up with a single to left field to bring home
Kyle Gleason (Danville, N.H.).
Devin Grindle (Surry, Maine),
Brad Smith (Ellsworth, Maine), and
Zach Nickerson (Fairfield, Maine) all contributed in the inning as well.
The Terriers added two more runs in both the third and fourth innings to take a 9-1 lead. They tagged on four more runs in the fifth including a two-run home run by Gleason to extend their lead. Thomas was not done bringing in two more runs in the sixth inning to cap off the big win.
Cagnina led the Terriers' offensive efforts with three hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs in three at bats. Gleason added two hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs and Grindle added two hits, two RBIs and one runs scored.
Dylan Copeland (Salisbury, Mass.) earned the victory on the hill for Thomas. The right hander went four and a third innings, allowing one run on four hits.
Matt Hurley (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) and
Anthony Mauriello (West Palm Beach, Fla.) came in, in relief for Thomas.
Game Two: Thomas 4 UMPI 3
The second game was a much lower scoring affair but the Terriers were able to squeeze out their second win of the day. The Owls went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning but their lead was short lived as Thomas scored two runs in the bottom of the first.
Cagnina's bat stayed hot as hit a double on a line drive to right field in the first inning to score Smith. Grindle helped get the second run home with a sacrifice fly to right field. Once Thomas took the lead, they were able to stay out of front for the entire game.

Jarrad Willette (Concord, N.H.), Cagnina,
Austin Stebbins (Farmingdale, Maine), and
Aaron Young (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) each collected one hit each for the Terriers. Thomas played a clean game on defense committing zero errors.
Garrison Paillet (Coconut Creek, Fla.) was credited with the victory for Thomas College. In his first appearance since his no-hitter, the southpaw surrendered two runs on four hits over four innings, striking out five and walking just one. Meza and Nickerson entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
UP NEXT: The Terriers will find out tomorrow (Sunday) if they make the North Atlantic Conference playoffs, which are scheduled for Sunday, May 8 – Tuesday, May 10, 2022, and will be hosted by the the No. 1 seed in the NAC West. The top two teams from the east division and west division make the playoffs. Currently Thomas sits in second place in the east.
