Thomas baseball drops two close games to conference rival Husson

WATERVILLE, Maine - Thomas baseball lost two tight games to conference foe Husson University on Tuesday. 
 

Game One: Thomas 1 Husson 3 

The Eagles struck first, in the first inning scoring one run. They added a second run in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Terriers got one run back when Devin Grindle (Surry, Maine) hit a sacrifice fly to score Kyle Gleason (Danville, N.H.). Husson added an insurance run in the fifth inning to help seal their win. 
 
Gleason and DJ Cagnina (South Berwick, Maine) led Thomas with two hits each. Cagnina had two doubles in the first game while Gleason scored the only run for the Terriers. Brad Smith (Ellsworth, Maine) and Tony Meza (Los Angeles, Calif.) added one hit each in the game. 
 
James Lappin (Geelong, Victoria, Australia) got the start for Thomas going four and two thirds inning, allowing three runs on three hits, and striking out three. Cam Haynes (Laconia, N.H.) pitched the rest of the game for the Terriers, facing seven batters, and allowing just two hits. 
 

Game Two: Thomas 3  Husson 4 (8 innings)

Thomas jumped out to a three run lead in the third inning of game two. Cagnina hit his third double of the game, scoring Matt Seymour (Old Town, Maine) and Gleason. Two batters later Grindle reached on an error, bringing Meza across home plate. 
 
Husson got back one of their runs in the top of the fourth and two more in the sixth inning to tie things up. Neither team was able to score again in the scheduled seven innings, it wasn't until the top of the eighth that the Eagles scored their winning run.. 
 
Gleason added three more hits and one scored in game two while Meza had two hits and one run scored. J. Martin started the game for the Terriers, going three and two thirds innings, allowing one run on one hit, and striking out two. Jake Lacroix (Berwick, Maine) came in to pitch next and Andrew Pruell (Warren, Maine) closed out the game on the mound for Thomas.
 
 
UP NEXT: The Terriers are scheduled to host Colby on Wednesday in one nine inning game at 3:30 p.m.
