Thomas softball splits doubleheader with Husson

WATERVILLE, Maine. - Thomas softball split their doubleheader on Saturday with Husson College, with great pitching on display in both games in front of a packed crowd.

Game One: Thomas 0 Husson 2

The Eagles were able to put a run on the board in both the third and fourth innings enroute to their 2-0 lead. Husson pitcher McKenna Smith only allowed one hit and improved to 8-0 on the season.

Claudia Migliaccio (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pitched very well for the Terriers, despite picking up the loss. She pitched all seven innings, allowing two runs on nine hits, and striking out one.

Game Two: Thomas 1 Husson 0 (9 innings)

The second game was another low scoring affair with neither team able to score in the first seven innings. The Terriers threatened to score in the bottom of the fourth when Migliaccio reached second on a wild pitch but they were unable to convert.

It was not until the bottom of the ninth with one out and Anna Piirainen (West Paris, Maine) on second base, that Migliaccio reached on an error to bring home Piirainen for the win. Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine), Bailey Dunphy (North Anson, Maine), Maddie Rock (Bridgton, Maine), and Riley Giblin (Bristol, Conn.) each had one hit in the win for Thomas. Currier had another great outing on the mound for Thomas, allowing no runs on six hits and striking out nine batters.

The win for Thomas, halts a 13 game win streak overall for the Eagles and an eight game conference streak.

UP NEXT: Thomas will host University of Maine Presque Isle in a doubleheader on Thursday, with game one scheduled for 3 p.m.
