HENNIKER, N.H. - Thomas softball bounced back on Tuesday afternoon with two big wins over New England College.
Game One: Thomas 10 NEC 2
The Pilgrims jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first but those would be the only runs that they would score, as the Terriers tightened up their defense.
Kayla Duhaime (Ellsworth, Maine) got one run back for Thomas in the third inning when she hit a sacrifice fly to score
Cheyenne Simpson (Peyton, Colo.).
The Terrier's biggest inning came in the fifth inning when they put seven runs on the board. Duhaime tied the game up when she hit a double to center to score
Makayla Panich (Windham, N.H.). They scored the remaining seven runs on four singles to take a 8-2 lead. Thomas tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach for New England College.
Bailey Dunphy (North Anson, Maine) led the offense for the Terriers with three hits, two RBIs and one run. Simpson contributed two hits and scored two runs while Duhaime had one hit, two RBIs, and scored two runs.
Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine) picked up her fifth win of the season, pitching six innings allowing two runs on six hits, striking out three and walking one.
Game Two: Thomas 7 NEC 3
The Pilgrims jumped out to another quick lead in the second game, putting up three runs in the first inning, but Thomas was able to bounce back again this time with three home runs.. The Terriers got two runs back in the second when
Katie Splaine (Pelham, N.H.) singled to score
Maddie Rock (Bridgton, Maine) and Panich hit a sacrifice fly to score
Kasey Champney (Holland, Vt.).
Champney tied the game up in the fourth inning with a solo home run. ??Dunphy followed up with a home run of her own when she hit a three run homer to center field, to give Thomas a 6-3 lead. Rock stepped up to the plate next, hitting a home run of her own to left field.
Dunphy again led the Terrier's offensive efforts with a team high three RBIs. Rock and Champney added two hits each in the win.
Jordan Devine (Belgrade, Maine) had her best game of the season, pitching a complete game for Thomas, allowing three runs on eight runs and striking out four.
UP NEXT: The Terriers open up their North Atlantic Conference season with a doubleheader against UMaine Presque Isle on Saturday. Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. and game two is scheduled for 3 p.m.
