CLERMONT, Fla. - For the third straight day, Thomas softball (3-3) split their games, losing to Otterbein University before beating the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.
The Terriers fell to Otterbein 10-0 in five innings. The Cardinals put three quick runs on the board in the first inning and never looked back, scoring in all five innings.
Bryn Grabows pitched a complete game for Otterbein, only allowing three hits, striking out four and walking two.
Cheyenne Simpson (Peyton, Colo.),
Bailey Dunphy (North Anson, Maine) and
Riley Giblin (Bristol, Conn.) all had hits for the Terriers in the loss.
Thomas snatched the lead late in their game against University of Pittsburgh at Greenbug to seal their 6-3 victory.
The Terriers put up two runs in the first inning on an error and a double by Giblin. The Bobcats answered in the second inning with three runs of their own, taking a 3-2 edge.
Rylie Yeager (Warren, Pa.) hit a sac fly to score
Makayla Panich (Windham, N.H.) in the fourth inning to square the contest up.
Thomas took the lead for the second time in the fifth inning off a fielder's choice by
Maddie Rock (Bridgton, Maine) and was able to hold on for the rest of the game. They added two insurance runs in the sixth when Yeager hit another sac fly and Dunphy doubled.
Currier got the win for the Terriers relieving Yeager in the second inning. She allowed only two hits and struck out two in five innings of work. She improves to 2-0 early in the season.
Thomas got offensive help from six different players in the win. First year Simpson had three hits and scored one run, Dunphy had two hits, two runs, and one RBI while Panich had two hits and scored twice.
UP NEXT: The Terriers are off on Wednesday before returning to the field on Thursday to play Saint Joe's College of Maine at 3 p.m. and Swarthmore College at 5:15 pm.
