Terrier Softball bounces back with big win over Plymouth State

CLERMONT, Fla. - Thomas softball fired on all cylinders in their second game of the season beating Plymouth State definitively 7-2.

Thomas got on the board first in the second inning when Riley Giblin (Bristol, Conn.) hit a sacrifice fly to score Kaylee Fonseca (Seekonk, Mass.) from third base. The Terrier's offense exploded in the fourth inning, scoring five runs. Cheyenne Simpson (Peyton, Colo.), Bailey Dunphy (North Anson, Maine) and Anna Piirainen (West Paris, Maine) all hit singles while Maddie Rock (Bridgton, Maine) got a double. The Terriers padded their lead in the sixth inning when Dunphy scored on a wild pitch after the Panthers scored two runs earlier in the inning.

Thomas saw seven different players contribute hits while seven different players and RBIs from five different players in the win. Claudia Migliaccio (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a strong outing on the mound for the Terriers. The right hander went five and a third innings, allowing two runs on six hits, and striking out three. Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine) came in to finish the game, allowing just two hits while striking out two.

This is the first time in program history that the Terriers have beaten Plymouth State. They entered the game 0-4 against the Panthers all time dating back to 2007. The two teams last met in 2016 when Plymouth State beat Thomas 11-3.

UP NEXT: The Terriers will play two games on Monday afternoon in Florida against schools they have never faced before. The first game is slated for 1 p.m. against Berea College followed by a  3:45 p.m. game against Penn State Hazleton.
