STOWE, Vt. - Thomas men's tennis picked up a huge conference win over NVU-Lyndon, beating the Hornets 6-3 on Sunday at Topnotch Tennis.
The Terriers and Hornets tied for first in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) coaches preseason poll, so both teams knew that this was a big match-up early in the season.
Thomas started strong by sweeping all three doubles points. Jose Afonso (Tenerife, Spain) and Gabe McPhail (Windham, ME) cruised at #1 doubles,winning 8-0 while Rajhan Munnings (Providenciales, Turks and Caicos) and Liam Gould (Freeport, Maine) had a harder battle winning 9-8. Caleb Daigneault (Cornville, Maine) and Kegan Rodrigue (Auburn, Maine) picked up the win at #3 doubles by a score of 8-3.
Alfonso continued to dominate in singles winning his match at #1 singles 6-0 6-0. McPhail won at #3 singles 6-3 6-3 and Munnings won the sixth point for the Terriers at #4 8-5.
UP NEXT: Thomas will travel to the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday for a non-conference match at 4 p.m.
