Game Recap: Softball |

Thomas softball suffers sweep at Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine. - Thomas softball (4-8) fell in their first two games back in Maine to crosstown rival Colby College (2-0).

Game One: Thomas 1, Colby 2 8 inn.

The first game was a low scoring affair. The Mules got on the board first when Chloe Wilcox hit a double to bring Ashley Ketchum home to take a 1-0 lead. The Terriers answered in the top of the sixth when Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine) singled to score Riley Giblin (Bristol, Conn.) to tie things up at one run apiece.

Neither team was able to score again in regulation, so they headed to extra innings, where each team places a runner on second base to start the inning. Unfortunately Thomas was not able to score in the top of the eighth. Wilcox again came up big for the Mules, hitting her second double of the game, scoring Ketchum for the second time, and sealing the victory for the home team.

Currier pitched the full game for the Terriers and despite picking up her first loss of the season, continues to be their top pitcher. She allowed  two two runs on six hits while striking out five and walking three in her appearance.  Currier has appeared in a team high six games, pitching the most innings, and posting a team best 2.78 ERA.

Game Two: Thomas 2, Colby 7

The second game started similarly to the first game with the Mules scoring the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. The Terriers answered in the third inning with two runs of their own. Kayla Duhaime (Ellsworth, Maine) scored the first run on a wild pitch. Bailey Dunphy (North Anson, Maine) came up to plate next and hit a single, scoring Currier, and giving Thomas a 2-1 lead.

Colby tied it up in the fourth inning off of a double by Morgan Fusco. The game stayed tied until the bottom of the sixth when the Mule's bats came alive and they were able to put five runs on the board, putting the game out of reach for the Terriers.

Claudia Migliaccio (Brooklyn, N.Y.) started the game on the mound for Thomas, pitching five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and walking one. Jordan Devine (Belgrade, Maine) came in, in relief, pitching the sixth inning.

UP NEXT: The Terriers will travel to Saint Joseph's College of Maine on March 27th for a double header with game times scheduled for noon and 2 p.m.
