DAVENPORT, Fla. - Thomas baseball dropped their final two spring break games on Tuesday to St. Lawrence University.
Game One: Thomas 4, St. Lawrence University 5
The Terriers almost completed a fantastic comeback in the first game but fell just short. The Saints scored two runs in the first inning, one run in the fourth and two more runs in the seventh inning. They also held Thomas scoreless through the first six innings.
Thomas' bats came alive in the top of the seventh inning, starting with
Nick Hutson (Queens, N.Y.) reaching base on an error.
Devin Grindle (Surry, Maine) and
Tommy Smith (Cumming, Ga.) singled to load the bases for
Jarrad Willette (Concord, N.H.) who hit a double to score two runs. Both
Jason Bartlett (Belfast, Maine) and
DJ Cagnina (South Berwick, Maine) reached base to bring two more runs across the plate to get within one run of St. Lawrence but were ultimately unable to complete the comeback.
Tyler Cantey (Los Angeles, Calif.) started the game for the Terriers, going four innings allowing three runs on four hits while striking out four and walking three.
Brad Smith (Ellsworth, Maine) came in and pitched the final three innings, allowing two runs on five hits and walking one batter.
Game Two: Thomas 1, St. Lawrence University 6
The Saints got out to another early lead in the second game, putting up runs in four out of the first five innings. B. Smith was able to help bring a run across in the fourth inning for the Terriers but that was the only offense they were able to muster, as St. Lawrence held them to just three hits.
Thomas used four pitchers in the game starting with
Garrison Paillet (Coconut Creek, Fla.), who went two innings allowing two runs on three hits, striking out one and walking one.
Andrew Pruell (Warren, Maine) and
Isaiah Williams (Valley Springs, Calif.) pitched the middle three innings allowing two runs and two hits each.
Wyatt Thompson (Orillia, Ont.) closed the game for the Terriers, pitching one inning, allowing no hits, striking out one and walking one.
UP NEXT: The Terriers travel to Bowdoin for a non-conference game on April 1st for a 3 p.m. game.
