Game Recap: Softball |

Thomas softball triumphs over Nichols, falls to Gordon and Geneva

CLERMONT, Fla. - Thomas Softball won their game against Nichols College on Friday but fell to Geneva College and Gordon College to finish their spring break with four wins and six losses.

Game One: Thomas 6, Geneva 11

The Terriers jumped out to a two-run lead against Geneva in the third inning when Claudia Migliaccio (Brooklyn, N.Y.) singled up the middle, scoring Anna Piirainen (West Paris, Maine) and Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine). They added four more runs in the next frame, Piirainen and Dunphy each hit a single to drive in one run, before Maddie Rock (Bridgton, Maine) hit a double to get both Piirainen and Dunphy across home plate.

Thomas scored one more run in the sixth inning to take a 6-0 lead but Geneva's bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth, scoring 11 runs. The Terriers were not able to mount a comeback of their own in the seventh inning, falling 11-6.

Dunphy led Thomas' offensive efforts with four hits and two RBIs. Currier, Rock, Piirainen, and Migliaccio all had two hits each.

Game Two: Thomas 6, Nichols 4

Thomas' second game against Nichols College was a back-and-forth affair. The Bison struck first in the top of the first inning, scoring one run but their lead would not last. Dunphy picked up where she left off in the first game, singling through the right side, scoring Piirainen. Currier scored on a wild pitch and Dunphy scored on a fielder's choice.

Nichols scored one run in the second inning off a single and then retook the lead in the third inning when Mackenzie Bourgault hit a two-run homer to give the Bison a 4-3 edge. The Terriers answered in the bottom of the fifth when Makayla Panich (Windham, N.H.) singled to bring home one run and Piirainen singled to score two additional runs, to give Thomas a 6-4 lead.

Currier pitched a complete game for the Terriers including not giving up a run after the third inning. She allowed four runs on four hits while striking out four and walking four, for her third win of the season. Thomas got offensive production from seven different players and their defense played one of their strongest games, only committing one error. Dunphy also recorded her 100th career hit in the game.

Game Three: Thomas 0, Gordon 8

Gordon College held Thomas to just two hits in the Terriers' last spring break game. The Fighting Scots scored one run in the third, two runs in the fifth and five runs in the sixth inning. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth inning.

UP NEXT: The Terriers will return home to play a doubleheader at Colby on Tuesday, first pitch of game one is scheduled for 4 p.m.
