PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Thomas men's basketball fell for the second time in two days on Sunday to the University of Maine at Presque Isle, this time by the score of 75-64.
Neither team was able to pull away in the early stages of the game. The Terriers went up by four points with about five minutes to go in the first half but the Owls scored seven straight points to regain the lead. UMPI was able to pull away at the end of the first half, leading by seven at the break.
The Owls were able to maintain their lead but the Terriers clawed their way back in, tying the game at 47 with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. Shortly after they took their first lead of the second half after a layup by
Zach Nickerson (Fairfield, Maine), but it would not last. UMPI answered with another seven point run to take over the lead again. The Terriers got within one point again with just over two minutes remaining in the game but the Owls reeled off 10 straight points to end the game and seal their second victory of the weekend.
Demetris Webster (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) led Thomas again, this time with 17 points, six assists and four rebounds. Webster is now just 21 points shy of 1,000 with two regular season games remaining. Dany Harris had a double double for UMPI with 27 points and 12 rebounds.
Up next the Terriers will host NVU-Johnson on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m then they will wrap up their regular season at home against University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
