PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Thomas Men's basketball (4-11) dropped the first of two games this weekend against the University of Maine at Presque Isle 84-63.
Senior Demetris Webster (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) scored the first eight points for the Terriers, as he closes in on 1,000 career points. Thomas built a 10-2 lead early but the Owls answered with a 7-0 run of their own. The rest of the half was back and forth, with UMPI finishing the half up by three points.
The Terriers were able to keep it close in the opening minutes of the second half but the Owls caught fire, scoring 12 straight points, building their lead to 16. UMPI was able to keep their momentum the rest of the second half to get an important conference win as the battle for playoff position continues.
Webster led Thomas for the seventh straight game this season, dropping 18 in the loss to the Owls. He only needs 38 more points to reach 1,000. UMPI had four players score double digits in their win.
Earlier this week the North Atlantic Conference announced that every basketball team will make the playoffs, with playoff contests starting Tuesday, February 15th. This change is for this season only.
The Terriers will look for their revenge tomorrow at 1 p.m against the Owls.
