FARMINGTON, Maine - Thomas men's basketball (4-8) battled hard on the road against the University of Maine at Farmington (7-5) on Tuesday night but ultimately came up short, losing 72-67.
The Terriers got off to a fast start scoring with eight straight points but the Beavers answered with 13 straight of their own. The game continued to stay close in the first half with seven lead changes in the half but UMaine Farmington was able to pull away at the end of the half, scoring the last seven points, taking a 37-30 lead into the locker room.
Thomas was able to score 12 points on turnovers but were out rebounded by the Beavers 22-11 in the first half. Senior Demetris Webster (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) led the Terriers with eight points while junior Trevor Reed (Rockland, Maine) added seven points.
The Terriers continued to play strong on both sides of the ball, narrowing the Beavers lead. They were able to take their first lead of the second half off a three from Kory Winch (Hampden, Maine) with 7:42 remaining in the game. UMF was able to get their lead back up to five but with 20 seconds left Thomas got within two points but unfortunately were unable to come all the way back.
The Terriers had three players score double digits in the loss, Webster ended the game with 19 points, Reed had 12 and Lokiron Anda (Portland, Maine) added 10. Webster also added nine assists in the game. Jack Kane had 19 points and 11 rebounds in the win for the Beavers. This was the sixth game this season, that has been decided by six points or less for Thomas.
Next up the Terriers will host Husson on Friday with tip-off scheduled at 5:30 pm. Please note that spectators are still not allowed but there will be a live stream and stats for fans.
