WATERVILLE, Maine - Men's basketball split their important weekend series with NVU-Lyndon, after winning big on Friday night, their late comeback against the Hornets fell short as they fell 90-87 despite a big afternoon from Demetris Webster (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) and Parker Desjardins (Jackman, Maine).
On Friday night it was the Terriers who jumped out to a big lead in the first half, on Saturday afternoon it was Lyndon who pulled away in the early stages of the game. The Hornets never trailed in the first twenty minutes, taking a commanding 18-point lead.
Lyndon got their lead up as high as twenty in the opening moments of the second half before Thomas was able to claw their way back into the game. Thomas's offense started to click about half way through the second half, leading to a 24-7 run. The Terriers took their first lead with 4:26 remaining off a layup by Matthew Hadnot (Fredericksburg, Va.).
The game continued to go back and forth in the last four minutes. With just under 90 seconds remaining Lyndon went up five points when Zach Falkenburg made a layup and drew the foul for the and one. Thomas was able to make a pair of free throws to get back within one possession and Rico Limcaoco (Ashburn, Va.) had a look at a three pointer at the buzzer to tie up the game but the ball spun out of the hoop.
Webster and Desjardins both put up big numbers for a second night in a row, combining for 58 points in the loss for the Terriers. Falkenburg led the Hornets with 24 points while Antonio Carlisle added 23.
Next up men's basketball will travel to the University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday for a 5:30 pm game. Please note that UMF is not allowing any spectators for the game but a live stream and live stats will be available.
