Thomas women's basketball unable to hold on to halftime lead against tough Maine Maritime team

WATERVILLE, Maine - Thomas women's basketball (2-10) played an outstanding first half against a strong Maine Maritime Academy (12-2) team but ultimately fell 76-44 on Tuesday night.

The Terriers came out of the gate hot, sticking with the Mariners for the entire first quarter, only trailing by four after the first ten minutes. Thomas would go down by nine in the second quarter but did not panic, going on a 14-2 run to end the half, taking a three-point lead in the locker room.

Maine Maritime came out focused in the second half, stepping up their defense and out-scoring Thomas 46-11 in the second half including seven three pointers. With the loss Thomas falls to 1-2 in North Atlantic Conference games while Maine Maritime improves to 6-0.

The Terriers were led by senior captain Kaylee Ravagli (Lowell, Mass.), who scored 22 points including six points from the three-point line. Samantha Fortin (New Gloucester, Maine) and Anna Piirainen (West Paris, Maine) both added eight points in the loss for the home team. The Mariners were led by Maria Barela who scored 15 points, four other players contributed double digits for the visitors.

Up next the Terriers will host NVU-Lyndon in back-to-back games on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m. There will still be no spectators allowed but there will be a live stream and live stats for fans.
