WATERVILLE, Maine - Men's basketball (3-5) fell in a close game to SUNY-Canton (6-8) 71-61 on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Thomas College. The lead changed 23 times in a back-and-forth physical game.
The Terriers were able to shake off the rust of not playing in over a month very quickly against a talented SUNY-Canton team. As the half ended, the game was knotted at 30 points apiece with neither team able to get a lead bigger than four points.
The Kangaroos were able to build their lead to seven points with just under four minutes to play in the second half but the Terriers were able to fight back, getting the lead down to two points with under a minute to play. First year
Sawyer Deprey (Caribou, Maine) had an open look at a three with seven seconds remaining in the game to give Thomas but was unable to get the shot to drop.
Duprey led Thomas with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Demetris Webster (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) added 14 points, five rebounds, and four steals. SUNY-Canton's leading scorer was Quran Dubios who had 21 points and seven rebounds.
Up next the Terriers will host Maine Maritime Academy in an important North Atlantic East match up on Tuesday at 5:30 pm. The Mariners beat Thomas earlier this season by six points. No spectators will be allowed but there will be a live stream and live stats available.
