Gorham, Maine - Thomas' Women's Field Hockey fell 5-4 in a nail bitter to the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday night. FreshmanÂ
Julia Reny (Gardiner, Maine) had an outstanding night, leading the Terriers, netting two goals and two assists.
The Huskies drew first blood when Chloe Arsenault scored 6:22 in the first quarter. The Terriers struck back in the second quarter with three unanswered goals by three different players in a span of just over 6 minutes. Reny led things off followed by goals from seniorsÂ
Britney Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) and
Christina Denis (Waterville, Maine)Â
USM didn't take long to respond, scoring four unanswered goals of their own that stretched three quarters, including three from Sage Drinkwater. Thomas was able to close the gap to a single goal when freshman
Grace Slenker (Spring Grove, PA)Â scored her first goal of the season.
However, Drinkwater was able to extend the Huskies lead back to two goals with her impressive fourth goal of the game. Thomas was able to put one more goal by Reny on the board in the dying seconds but it was not enough to catch up to the Huskies and a red-hot Drinkwater.
The Terriers will be back in action on Saturday at noon against Skidmore College. The game will be streamed on Thomas College's YouTube channel for those who cannot make it to the game. Please remember that all spectators are required to wear masks at home games regardless of their vaccination status.
