PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Thomas College softball team defeated UMaine-Presque Isle 5-3 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) tiebreaker game on Friday afternoon. The win advances the Terriers to the NAC East Division Championship, where they will face off with Husson University in a best-of-three series.
After a scoreless first, the Terriers got on the board in the second when
Bailey Dunphy (North Anson, Maine) hit an RBI single to put Thomas up 1-0. Thomas doubled their lead in the third, with a
Kaylee Fonseca (Seekonk, Mass.) single bringing in a second run. The Owls took the lead away in the bottom half of the third, scoring three runs to go up 3-2.
Thomas regained the lead in the fourth, with a two-run single by
Kasey Champney (Holland, Vt.) putting the Terriers ahead 4-3.
Laticia Billings (Hope, Maine) added an insurance run in the fifth with an RBI double to make it a 5-3 final.
Claudia Migliaccio (Brooklyn, N.Y.) started the game in the circle for Thomas, pitching two and a third innings and allowing three runs on two hits.
Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine) came in relief and earned the win, allowing just one hit while striking out six in a scoreless four and two thirds' innings.

Thomas will move on to the NAC East Division Championship where they will travel to Husson for a best-of-three series. The first two games will be on Sunday, May 9 beginning at 1:00 PM. If necessary, game three will take place on Monday, May 10 at 1:00 PM.
