PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Thomas College softball team split a North Atlantic Conference double header with UMaine-Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon.
GAME 1 – UMPI 6, Thomas 3
Thomas popped out to the early lead with
Kasey Champney's third home run of the season giving the Terriers a 1-0 lead in the second. UMPI answered with three runs in the second to go up 3-1, then added three more in the fifth to push the lead to 6-1. Thomas made it 6-2 when
Bailey Dunphy (North Anson, Maine) scored on a groundout in the sixth inning. Dunphy had an RBI single in the seventh, but the Terriers fell short and took the 6-3 loss.
Kelsey Currier (Cumberland, Maine) took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out a season-high 10.
GAME 2 – Thomas 5, UMPI 4
The Terriers put two on the board in the top of the first to get the early advantage. Dunphy stole home to notch the first run before
Madison Rock (Bridgton, Maine) scored on an error to make it 2-0.
Claudia Migliaccio (Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit an RBI single in the fourth to push the lead to 3-0.
After an UMPI home run in the fourth made it 3-1, Thomas answered with another RBI single by Migliaccio to make it 4-1. The Owls got back within one with two in the fifth, but a Rock one-run single pushed it back to 5-3 in the sixth. UMPI scored once in the bottom of the sixth but could not get the tying run across as Thomas took the 5-4 win.
Migliaccio earned the win in the circle, allowing one run on three hits in four innings of work. Currier got the save, pitching a perfect seventh inning to shut the door.
