BASE: Eagles Take Two Over Thomas

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team fell to Husson University in a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games on Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1 – Husson 7, Thomas 3
Husson picked up two in the first to get the early lead, then extended it with another run in the second to go up 3-0. Thomas answered to tie it in the top of the third with three runs. Ryan Kappelmann came in on a groundout for the first run, followed by an RBI single by Kyle Gleason (Danville, N.H.). Kappelmann came back up later in the inning bring Gleason in on an RBI double that tied it 3-3.

Husson took back the lead with a run in the fourth, another in the fifth and two more in the sixth to pull away with the 7-3 win.

Daniel May (Honolulu, Hawaii) took the loss on the mound, allowing six earned runs on seven hits while striking out four in six innings of work.

GAME 2 – Husson 13, Thomas 4
Husson took a big lead in the first, putting up seven runs in the inning. Thomas got back within three in the top of the second, getting four runs back. Kappelmann drove in a pair with an RBI double, then scored on a Devin Grindle (Surry, Maine) single. Jackson Ladd punched one in with his own RBI single to make it 7-4. Husson put the game back out of reach with six runs in the third to seal the 13-4 victory.

Jacob Lacroix (Berwick, Maine) was tagged with the loss, giving up seven runs, three earned, in less than an inning of work. John Villanueva (Gray, Maine) pitched two innings of scoreless work in relief, as did Matt Hurley (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) in one inning of relief.
