BASE: Terriers Split Senior Day Doubleheader with Husson

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team split a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader with Husson University on Sunday afternoon at H. Allen Ryan Field.

GAME 1 – Thomas 15, Husson 7
Aaron Young (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) got Thomas going in the bottom of the first, driving in a run on a double to make it 1-0. Jacob Perry (Oakland, Maine) doubled the lead for Thomas in the second with an RBI single, then Bradly Smith (Ellsworth, Maine) doubled it again with a two-run single that made it 4-0. The Eagles got on the board with two runs in the fourth to make it 4-2.

Thomas belted a pair of home runs in the fourth, with Kyle Gleason (Danville, N.H.) hitting a two-run shot and Shane MacNeill (Kittery, Maine) following with a three-run blast to make it a 9-2 game. Husson rallied in the fifth with five runs to cut the Thomas lead to 9-7.

Thomas put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth, with Young driving in a run on a singles and Jacob Lacroix (Berwick, Maine) plating two with his own single to make it 12-7. Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) put an exclamation mark on the slug fest with a three-run homer in the sixth to give Thomas the 15-7 win.

Ryan Scepansky (Blandon, Pa.) was effective on the bump, going five innings and allowing seven runs on six hits to earn the win. Lacroix pitched two innings of one-hit relief to hold the Eagles at bay.

GAME 2 – Husson 18, Thomas 5
Thomas took the early lead again with an RBI single by Lacroix and a two-run double by MacNeill making it 3-0 after one. The Eagles took the lead in the third, scoring four runs. Young tied it back up with the Terriers fourth home run of the day to even the score at 4-4. Husson pulled away from there, scoring four runs in the fourth and eight in the sixth to go up 16-4. Jackson Ladd (Winthrop, Maine) had an RBI single in the sixth and the Eagles tacked on two in the seventh to make it an 18-5 final.

Nicholas Howard (Vassalboro, Maine) took the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs on four hits while striking out four.

SENIOR CELEBRATION
Prior to the game, Chandler Moran (Gardiner, Maine), Gabriel Crosby (Poland, Maine), John Villanueva (Gray, Maine) and Scepansky were honored for senior day.

Thomas will host Northern Vermont University-Lyndon to start their five-game series on Thursday, May 6 at 3:00 PM at H. Allen Ryan Field.
