WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball teams fell in a pair of games at Colby College on Friday evening.
GAME 1 – Colby 7, Thomas 0
The Mules popped out to an early lead, scoring four runs on a pair of hits while capitalizing on three Thomas errors. The Terriers threatened to answer in the top of the second, with a
Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) leadoff double followed by an
Aaron Young (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) setting up a first and third situation with no outs. Colby maneuvered around the threat, though, and escaped the inning unscathed.
Colby tacked on two more runs in the second, then another in the fourth, while the Thomas bats stayed quite as the Mules took the 7-0 victory.
Dylan Copeland (Salisbury, Mass.) allowed six runs, one earned, while giving up four hits and five walks in 2 innings of work to take the loss.
Nicholas Howard (Vassalboro, Maine) was strong in relief, allowing one earned run on four hits in four innings of work.
GAME 2 – Colby 7, Thomas 0
After a quite first inning, Colby struck in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs to go up 2-0. The Mules added three more in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 7-0 edge. The Terriers made some noise in the top of the sixth but stranded two runners on base to go scoreless in the inning and fell by the 7-0 final.
Daniel May (Honolulu, Hawaii) took the loss for Thomas, allowing three earned runs on two hits and four walks.
Chandler Moran (Gardiner, Maine) was effective in one inning of relief, pitching a 1-2-3 inning in the sixth.
