WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball teams earned a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victories over UMaine-Presque Isle on Sunday afternoon at H. Allen Ryan Field.
GAME 1 – Thomas 8, UMPI 1
After a scoreless first, Thomas jumped out to a lead in the second with four runs.
Jacob Perry (Oakland, Maine) started the rally with a two-run single, then came in to score on a groundout later in the inning.
Aaron Young (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) drove in a run on a single to cap off the inning with a 4-0 lead for Thomas. The Terriers added another run in the third inning on a
Shane MacNeill (Kittery, Maine) single to go up 5-0.
The Terriers extended their lead in the fourth with three more runs. Young scored on an error to score the first run of the inning, followed by an RBI single by
Bradly Smith (Ellsworth, Maine).
Devin Grindle (Surry, Maine) brought in a run on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-0.
The Owls got on the board in the sixth inning to make it an 8-1 final.
Daniel May (Honolulu, Hawaii) pitched five scoreless innings to earn the win. He allowed two hits while striking out four.
Caleb York (Millinocket, Maine) allowed a run on one hit in the sixth, then
Evan McLean (Millinocket, Maine) pitched a scoreless seventh to close the door.
GAME 2 – Thomas 7, UMPI 3
Thomas got on the board in the first inning with a Young sacrifice fly bringing a run in. The Owls answered with a run of their own to tie it 1-1 in the third.
Thomas broke the tie in the fourth with three runs scored. Young started the inning with his first career home run, blasting a solo shot to right-center field. MacNeill and Perry both picked up another RBI each on singles to close out the inning with a 4-1 lead.
Thomas scored three more runs in the fifth, with
Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) coming in on a sac fly and
Austin Stebbins (Farmingdale, Maine) driving in a pair on a double to make it 7-1. UMPI scored twice in the seventh to make it a 7-3 final.
Dylan Copeland (Salisbury, Mass.) allowed a run on five hits while striking out seven in six innings of work to earn the win on the bump.
