WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team fell to UMaine-Farmington in a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games on Monday afternoon at H. Allen Ryan Field.
GAME 1 – UMF 6, Thomas 5 (9 Innings)
The Beavers scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. Thomas got one back in the fourth with an RBI double by
Devin Grindle (Surry, Maine), then tied it in the fifth with a
Kyle Gleason (Danville, N.H.) two-run double.
UMF took the lead right back in the sixth, scoring twice to go up 5-3.
Bradly Smith (Ellsworth, Maine) had an RBI double in the bottom half of the inning to pull it within one, then
Jacob Lacroix (Berwick, Maine) hit a sacrifice fly to tie it back up at 5-5. The score stayed there until extra innings, where UMF scored a run in the top of the ninth to take a 6-5 win.
Ryan Scepansky (Blandon, Pa.) was tagged with the loss but pitched the full nine inning effort, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits while striking out five.
Game 2 – UMF 17, Thomas 6
Thomas took the early lead, with a Grindle RBI single followed by a Lacroix three-run homer making it 4-0 after one. UMF answered in the top of the second, taking the lead 5-4 after a five-run inning. The Beavers extended their lead in the fifth, going off for seven runs, then added four more in the sixth to go up 17-4. Thomas got RBI singles in the sixth by Gleason and
Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) to make it a 17-6 final.
Lacroix took the loss on the bump, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits in four innings of work.
