FARMINGTON, Maine – The Thomas College baseball team took a pair of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) games over UMaine-Farmington on Sunday afternoon.
GAME 1 – Thomas 14, UMF 6
After a scoreless first, the Thomas bats erupted for seven runs in the top of the second.
Kyle Gleason (Danville, N.H.) and
Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) delivered the big hits in the inning, each knocking two run doubles for the Terriers. UMF got one back in the bottom half of the inning to make it 7-1, then pulled within two in the third with four runs to make it 7-5.
The Terriers got two back in the fourth inning, with a
Bradly Smith (Ellsworth, Maine) single and
Jackson Ladd (Winthrop, Maine) sacrifice fly pushing the lead to 9-5. Thomas tacked on three in the fifth, including an
Austin Stebbins (Farmingdale, Maine) RBI single and
Devin Grindle (Surry, Maine) RBI double, to make it 12-5. The Beavers scored one in the sixth, before
Aaron Young (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot, to cap the game with a 14-6 win for Thomas.
Daniel May (Honolulu, Hawaii) earned the win on the mound for Thomas, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out three in four innings of work.
Jacob Lacroix (Berwick, Maine) pitched a scoreless inning of relief, while
Ethan LaChance (Winslow, Maine) was effective in two innings to end the game, allowing one run.
GAME 2 – Thomas 6, UMF 0
Young drove in the first two runs for Thomas in the third inning, with a two-run single making it 2-0. Grindle had an RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Terriers scored three times in the sixth, starting with a bunt single by
Lucas Harmon (Danville, N.H.) that brought a run in to score.
Jacob Perry (Oakland, Maine) scored on a passed ball and Kappelmann drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to make it a 6-0 final.
Dylan Copeland (Salisbury, Mass.) pitched a gem for Thomas, allowing just one hit and no runs in a complete game shutout. Â
