WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College fell in a pair of games to Colby College on Saturday afternoon in their season opener.
GAME 1 – Colby 11, Thomas 3
Colby took the lead early with a run in the bottom of the first to go up 1-0, then extended the lead scoring four in the third and three in the fourth to go up 8-0. Thomas got on the board in the fifth inning when
Kelsey Currier drove in two runs to cut the lead to 8-2. A
Kasey Champney (Holland, Vt.) single later in the inning drove Currier in to make it 8-3. Colby answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to take the 11-3 win.
Currier took the loss in the circle for Thomas, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits.
GAME 2 – Colby 14, Thomas 0
The Mules scored an early run in the first again to take a quick lead, then exploded for eight runs in the second inning to put the game out of reach. They tallied four runs in the third and one in the fourth to take the 14-0 victory.
Claudia Migliaccio (Brooklyn, N.Y.) took the loss for Thomas, giving up six earned runs on eight hits in two innings of work.
