BASE: Kappelmann's Four RBIs Lift Thomas to 6-2 Win in Season Opener

LEWISTON, Maine – Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) drove in a career-high four runs while going 3-for-3 on the day to lift the Thomas College baseball team to a 6-2 win over UMaine-Presque Isle in their season opener.

The Terriers got on the board in the top of the third inning when a Kyle Gleason (Danville, N.H.) groundout brought Austin Stebbins (Farmingdale, Maine) in to score. Kappelmann drove in his first RBI of the game later in the inning on a single that allowed Lucas Harmon (Danville, N.H.) around for a run to go up 2-0.

After the Owls tied things up 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Thomas answered in the top of the sixth when Kappelmann hit a two-out bases-loaded triple to put Thomas up 5-2. Aaron Young (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) brought Kappelmann in with a single to give Thomas the 6-2 advantage.

Ryan Scepansky (Blandon, Pa.) allowed two runs on just one hit while striking out three in five innings of work to earn the win for Thomas. Jacob Lacroix (Berwick, Maine) threw a scoreless sixth inning in relief, while Andrew Pruell closed the door in the seventh to preserve the win.
