WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College women's basketball team dropped their home opener to Husson University 62-32 on Saturday afternoon in Larry Mahaney Gym.
Thomas held control in the low-scoring first quarter, going up 6-2 midway through the quarter and holding an 8-4 advantage after one. Husson took over in the second, starting the period on a 15-9 run to take their first lead of the game, 19-17. The Eagles kept their foot on the gas and extended their lead to 13 by the end of the quarter, taking a 32-19 lead into the intermission.
Husson maintained their cushion through the first seven and a half minutes of the second, holding a 39-24 edge with 2:36 to go. The Eagles went on a 7-2 run to close out the quarter and take a 46-26 lead into the fourth. Husson put the Terriers away in the fourth, outscoring Thomas 16-6 to take the 62-32 win.
Alydia Brillant (Winterport, Maine) scored 15 points for the second game in a row to lead all scorers, while also pulling in six rebounds.
Chantel Ouellette (Auburn, Maine) and
Destiny Keohan (West Newfield, Maine) each added four points for Thomas, while
Brianne Benecke (Oakland, Maine) recorded three assists and three steals.
Thomas will host Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday, March 6 in Larry Mahaney Gym at 1:00 PM.
