WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College women's basketball team closed their season with a 63-35 loss to Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon in Larry Mahaney Gym.
After a slow-scoring start for both teams, where MMA held a 6-2 lead midway through the first, the Mariners pulled away with an 8-3 run to take a 14-5 lead into the second frame. Thomas scored six unanswered to pull the MMA lead down to 14-11with 6:10 to go in the second. The Mariners answered with a 7-0 run of their own to take a double-digit lead of 21-11 with 2:18 left in the half. The teams traded baskets in the final minutes of the quarter, with MMA taking a 26-18 lead into the intermission.
The Mariners methodically built up a substantial lead in the third, outscoring Thomas 21-6 over the first seven and a half minutes of the quarter to make their lead 47-24. Then went on to take a 49-30 lead into the final frame. MMA dominated another low-scoring period for the Terriers, taking the 63-35 victory.
Alydia Brillant (Winterport, Maine) led the Terriers in scoring for the third-straight game, dropping 14 points to go along with 8 rebounds.
Kaylee Ravagli (Lowell, Mass.) scored a season-high 9 points, while
Chantel Ouellette (Auburn, Maine) and
Mackenzie Burrows (Brunswick, Maine) rounded out the lineup with 4 points each.
