HALLOWELL, Maine – The Thomas College Men's Ice Hockey team suffered a loss to Wentworth Institute of Technology at the Camden National Bank Ice Vault on Sunday night, 6-5.
The first period consisted of fast and physical play. Each team exchanged one scoring opportunity after another, until
William Heywood (Gray, Maine) pounced on a loose puck to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.
Thomas carried their momentum into the second period and
Ryan Kappelmann (Auburn, Maine) extended the Terriers lead to 2-0. Wentworth responded with two quick goals and suddenly the score was tied again at 2-2. Kappelman found the goal for the second time in the second period to put Thomas ahead 3-2, but the Leopards countered with two more quick goals to go up 4-3 on the Terriers.
Wentworth capitalized on a power play to go up 5-3 on Thomas in the third period.Kappelman rallied the Terriers by scoring his third and fourth goals to tie the game for the third time at 5-5. The Leopards power play unit scored on a redirected shot from the point at the eight-second mark to prevail over Thomas, 6-5.
The Terriers will next travel across town to play Colby College on Wednesday, December 1.
