CASTLETON,Vt. - Thomas Women's Basketball lost their season opener 52-38 to New England College on Saturday evening. The game was the first of two games in Vermont this weekend as part of the Spartan Classic hosted by Castleton University. 
 
The Terriers played with a lot of energy to start the first quarter, sticking close to the Pilgrims until the closing minutes of the first quarter. NEC went on a 8-1 run. NEC held Thomas to just four points in the second quarter as the Terriers went into the half, down by 12 points. 
 
Thomas played well in the second half, staying close to the Pilgrims but unable to chip away at their lead. The Terriers scored only one less bucket than NEC in the second half, losing by a final of 52-38. 
 
The Terriers were led by Kaylee Ravagli (Lowell, Mass.), who scored 11 points while Anna Piirainen (West Paris, Maine) and Chantel Ouellette (Auburn, Maine) added 10 points each. Pirainen also had a team high 12 rebounds. 
 
The Terriers will wrap up their road trip in Vermont tomorrow when they play host Castleton University at 3 p.m. You can watch the game online for free by clicking here.
