BANGOR, Maine - Field Hockey was handed their first NECC conference loss of the season on the road at Husson University. The Eagles controlled the game from the start, winning 4-1 on Tuesday night.
This was the second time these two teams faced off in less than a week. The Terriers were able to beat Husson 3-1 at home but it was obvious from the start that Husson was looking for some revenge on Tuesday.
The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board, scoring three goals in the first ten minutes of the game. Julia Murch found the back of the cage at 2:46 with Victoria Friend, and Ryley Newcomb adding goals at 4:58 and 9:24 respectively.
Julia Reny (Gardiner, Maine) ended the shutout three minutes into the third quarter but Thomas was unable to sustain the momentum. Phoebe Joy added Husson's fourth goal, putting the game out of reach.
This was the Eagles first win over Thomas since November 14th, 2018 in the NECC semifinals. It was their first regular season win in the series since 2017.
Up next the Terriers have two important conference games remaining. The first at home against New England College on Friday evening and the second at Manhattanville on Sunday afternoon. They already have wins over both teams but it took overtime to beat NEC.
Thomas currently holds a one game lead over Husson in the NECC standings. Whoever finishes first will host the four team playoffs on November 6th and 7th.
