HENNIKER, NH. - Thomas Field Hockey triumphantly passed one of its toughest tests of the season on Tuesday when they beat New England College 6-5 in overtime.
The Terriers got off to a slow start allowing two goals within the first six minutes, the first scored by Meaghan McCamish and the second scored by Drea Chin. They were finally able to get on the board at 10:22 when
Britney Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) found the back of the cage.
Kayci Faulkingham (Belfast, Maine) tied it up four minutes later with her third goal of the season.
The game was tied for about five minutes before the PIlgrims were able to score three unanswered goals, with two coming in the second quarter and one in the third quarter. It looked like the game was getting out of reach for Thomas until
Lindsey Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) scored in the third quarter sparking four straight goals for the Terriers.
First year
Grace Slenker (Spring Grove, PA) made it a one goal game five minutes later with her third goal of the season and momentum shifting into Thomas' favor..They did not allow NEC to take a single shot in the fourth quarter and with just under six minutes remaining Britney Gregiore tied it up.
The Terriers needed just 45 seconds of overtime to complete the comeback with Britney Gregiore scoring again, netting her third goal of the game and 13th goal of the season.
Thomas improves to 5-7 overall and 4-0 in New England Collegiate Conference games, keeping them atop the conference standings. They will now have 11 days off before another important conference game against Husson University on Saturday October 23rd at 2:30 p.m.
