Thomas Men's Lacrosse Falls to Saint Joseph's (Maine), 9-5

WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College men's lacrosse team fell to Saint Joseph's College (Maine), 9-5, in a non-conference matchup Saturday at Smith Field.

The loss drops the Terriers to 0-2 while the Monks improve to 2-4 overall.

Sophomore Colby Blondin (Colchester, Vt. / Colchester) scored a goal and recorded three assists while senior Zac Crimmin (Westbrook, Maine / Westbrook) added two goals in the loss. Matt Donnell led the way for the Monks, scoring three goals while Mark LaPierre and Jake O'Brien each chipped in with two goals in the victory.

The Monks got on the board first with five minutes remaining in the first quarter on a goal from Joe O'Reilly. Thomas answered back just over a minute later as Crimmin scored his first of the contest to tie the game up at 1-1. In the final minutes of the first, the Monks jumped out to a 3-1 lead on goals from O'Brien and Tyler Retalic.

Late into the second quarter, the Monks added goals from LaPierre and Donnell to increase their lead at 5-1. Thomas looked to rally back as senior Bryan Ferris (Whitman, Mass. / Whitman-Hanson Regional) scored to bring the game within three. The rally was short-lived as the Monks added two more goals by O'Brien and LaPierre to go up 7-2. Senior Parker Chute (Brentwood, N.H. / Exeter) tallied a goal with 40 seconds left in the second ended the scoring in the first half with 7-3 Saint Joseph's lead.

The Monks expanded their lead to 9-3 just halfway through the third quarter as LaPierre added his second of the game and Donnell added his third to complete the hat trick. Blondin added a goal in the waning seconds of the third and Crimmin scored the only goal of the fourth quarter to set the final score at 9-5.

Sophomore Connor Lamberton (Shohola, Pa. / Delaware Valley) was given the loss in goal for the Terriers after stopping 15 shots.  Connor Trainor earned the victory in goal for Saint Joseph's while making eight saves. The Monks outshot the Terriers 52-24 and had a 35-23 advantage in groundballs.

The Terriers will begin North Atlantic Conference play next Saturday, March 26, as they travel to Castleton University for a noon contest.
