Box Score CASTLETON, VT - The Thomas men's lacrosse team overcame a four-point halftime deficit but fell just short as Richard Aberle Jr. of Green Mountain scored the game-winner with only 1:49 remaining to defeat the Terriers 9-8 in a North Atlantic Conference game on Saturday night.
It took Thomas (3-8, 2-5 NAC) just 10 seconds to get on the scoreboard, as Jacob Bilodeau raced in unassisted to notch the first goal of the game. Green Mountain (3-7, 3-4 NAC) then scored three of the next four goals in the first quarter and led 3-2. Bryan Ferris scored on a man-up opportunity with assist from Bilodeau.
The Eagles came out and scored the first four goals of the second quarter, all four of them by Aberle Jr. Ferris ended the Eagle run on an assist from Zac Crimmin to bring Thomas within four. Aberle Jr. then notched goal number five of the quarter before Crimmin ended the half with his first of the game to send Thomas down at the half 8-4.
The third quarter was all Thomas, as they shutout the Eagles 3-0. Bilodeau, Ferris and Parker Chute each scored once to bring the Terriers to within one goal heading into the fourth quarter.
After 10 minutes went by in the final quarter, Thomas finally found the equalizer, when Ferris found the back of the net for the fourth time in the game with a man advantage on an assist from Kade Strout to even the score up 8-8.
Green Mountain put home the winner when Nate Layom found Aberle Jr. for his game-high sixth goal of the game.
Ferris led Thomas with four goals in the loss, while Connor Lamberton recorded seven saves in goal and Liam Salus had six.
Thomas will conclude their regular season on Wednesday, April 15 when they host Husson University at 7:30 PM.
