Terriers Defeated By Maine Maritime

CASTINE, ME - The Thomas men's lacrosse team could not get their offensive going and were defeated 16-2 by Maine Maritime Academy in a North Atlantic Conference contest on Wednesday evening from Ritchie Field.

The Terriers (0-5, 0-2 NAC) played a strong defensive first quarter, as the Mariners were held to two goals on 10 shots. Peter Moore and Dean Samuelson each score unassisted to give the Mariners (2-4, 2-0 NAC) a 2-0 lead at the end of one.

As the second quarter wore on, Thomas began to wear down a bit, as they held off the Mariners for over eight minutes in the quarter until Nicholas Betti broke through in a scoreless second quarter. Maine Maritime would end the quarter hot, scoring three goals in a 52-second span to push their over the Terriers to 6-0 at the intermission.

The third quarter saw more Mariners as they netted the first five goals to extend their lead to double-figures at 11-0. Thomas found some offense near the end of the quarter when Parker Chute scored unassisted for his second goal of the season with 51 seconds remaining to get the Terriers on the board.

Maine Maritime would outscore Thomas 4-1 in the final quarter, with Colby Blondin scoring his team-leading fifth goal of the year.

Connor Lamberton got the start in goal, logging 45 minutes and making 15 saves. Liam Salus also appeared in net and recorded four saves in 15 minutes.

Peter Moore led the way with six goals for the Mariners, while Betti finished with four goals and Samuelson totaled three.

Thomas will return to action on Saturday, March 28 for their home opener against the Castleton State College Spartans at 3:30 PM.
