Box Score PORTLAND, ME - The Thomas men's lacrosse team could not hold on to an early 2-0 lead, as Saint Joseph's pulled ahead and away for the 13-5 win on Thursday evening in a non-conference matchup from Deering Memorial Stadium in Portland.
Thomas (0-3) got off to a good start in the first quarter, as both teams were scoreless until the last two minutes until Zac Crimmin put home the games first goal off an assist from Bryan Ferris at the 1:44 mark.
Crimmin would notch another goal with the help of Ferris with just 18 seconds remaining in the quarter to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead over the Monks (3-2) at the end of one.
The second quarter opened with back to back Monk goals, as Jake O'Brien and Austin Havu took advantage of a man up opportunity to even the score at two apiece.
Ferris got into the scoring action at the 9:47 mark of the second on an assist from Sheldon Jones to regain the lead for Thomas at 3-2.
Saint Joseph's would then score the last four goals of the quarter, two of those by Patrick Hills to give the Monks a 6-3 halftime lead.
Thomas goalkeeper Liam Salus recorded 11 first half saves to keep the Terriers close, as the Monks outshot Thomas 32-9 and won all nine face offs.
Saint Joseph's kept it going to start the second half, scoring the only four goals of the third quarter to extend their lead to 10-3. Four different Monk players scored in the quarter.
The Monks added another goal to bring their scoring run to nine until Crimmin netted his third goal of the game a man down. Crimmin would score once again four minutes later for his fourth of the game to pull Thomas within six at 11-5.
Saint Joseph's would put any comeback to rest with the game's final two goals for the 13-5 final.
The four goals by Crimmin were the first of his career. Ferris added one goal and two assists for the Terriers and Salus finished with 19 saves in net.
Hills led the Monks with three goals, while Brendan Barrett and Dalton Eldridge each had two goals and three assists. Ethan Rettew collected the win in goal, recording one save.
Thomas will return to play on Saturday, March 21 when they travel to take on New England College at 4:00 PM.
