WATERVILLE, ME - #2 Thomas College (7-5, 5-1 NAC) will host to #6 Colby-Sawyer College (4-12, 1-5 NAC) in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's lacrosse semifinal at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, April 29 at Smith Field.
How they got here:
Thomas concluded the season with a 5-1 conference record, outscoring their conference opponents 95-46 over that span. The Terriers are led by junior Jennifer Day (43 goals, 15 assists, 58 points) and senior Miranda Tinsman (45 goals, nine assists, 54 points), who are first and second respectively in the NAC with points this season.
Colby-Sawyer, despite only winning one conference game on the season to Green Mountain College, four out of the five losses they suffered were by less than five goals. Caitlyn Whearty leads the Chargers with 25 goals, nine assists, and 34 points.
The last time they met:
Thomas defeated Colby-Sawyer earlier in the season in New London, N.H., 13-10. The game was tied midway through the second half before Brittany Premo tallied back to back goals, including the game-winner to seal the Terriers victory.
What they have done lately?
Last Tuesday night, Thomas hosted New England College for their final regular season contest in a clash of two identical conference records and a fight for the #2 seed in the playoffs. The Red and Black were able to knock off the Pilgrims 21-9 to secure a first round bye going into the NAC tournament.
Colby-Sawyer travelled to third-seeded NEC and spoiled the Pilgrims chance at redemption to the Terriers, defeating them 14-10. Alyssia Janek scored a game-high four goals along with two assists in the Chargers win.
Historically speaking:
In the brief history of these two teams meeting dating back to the 2011 season, both teams have won two games apiece, with Thomas winning the last two.
Coaches Corner:
Head Coach Lauren Bickford, now in her fourth season at Thomas, leads the squad to the playoffs for the third time in her tenure. The 2013 NAC Coach of the Year has taken the Terriers to two conference championships since taking over the program in 2010.
Emily-Rinde Thorsen, in her fifth season as Head Coach for Colby-Sawyer, has led the Chargers to the postseason each year since taking over the program in 2010.
