WATERVILLE, ME – Thomas College (12-12-1, 5-4-1 NAC) dropped one game, while ending in a tie due to darkness in the nightcap of a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball doubleheader against Maine Maritime Academy (5-16-1, 1-10-1 NAC). The first game the Mariners took 6-5, then the second ended in a 2-2 draw.

GAME ONE

Thomas was able to crack first, scoring two runs in the first inning on a sacrifice ground out by Kelsey Crowe and a Korrie Laren RBI single. Maine Maritime would take the lead in the top of the second, responding with three runs singles by Marotte and Flannery, while Marcotte ended up scoring later in the inning on a wild pitch.

A solo home run by Alyssa Eugley evened the score at three apiece in the bottom of the second, while a two run homer by Kelsey Crowe in the bottom of the fifth gave the hosts a two run advantage.

The Mariners tied the score in the sixth, then scored the eventual game-winner in the seventh on a single by Taylor that scored Flannery.

Crowe suffered the loss in the circle, going seven innings with one earned runs and eight strikeouts.

Taylor earned the victory for MMA, tossing seven innings with three earned runs and two strikeouts.

GAME TWO

Thomas began the game with two runs in the first, including a wild pitch that scored Courtney Veilleux, and a single by Crowe that brought in Lauren Hachey.

Maine Maritime cut the deficit in half in the top of the second, when Yeo scored on an error by the third baseman. The Mariners tied the contest in the top of the seventh, as Flannery was caught stealing second, but was able to let Nalette score from third to bring the game to three apiece.

Both teams were close to scoring a winning run in the eighth inning, as both teams left a runner stranded on third base before the game was called due to darkness.

Thomas will be back at it tomorrow as they travel to Gordon College for a 3:30 PM game.
