Box Score Castleton, VT- Thomas College men's lacrosse was defeated by Castleton, 16-3, in their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) season opener on Sunday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.
Zach Davidson led the way for Castleton with seven points, finishing the game with two goals and a season-high five assists to lead the Spartan scorers.
Both teams started off trading goals in the first three minutes. Davidson put the Spartans on the board 1:07 into the game, but
Gunnar Shelton provided an answer for the Terriers just 1:49 later to tie the game at 1-1. A goal from Ruggiero with 9:20 remaining in the period started the Spartans on a 9-1 run to end the first half, putting Castleton ahead 10-2 at the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Taylor Swarter led the Spartan offense, scoring a pair of goals to extend the Castleton advantage to 12-2. Shelton notched his second goal of the game for the Terriers at the 3:20 mark of the third period to cut the lead to 12-3.
Peter Latulippe earned the win in net for the Spartans making one save and allowing two goals in the first 40:09 of play. Sam Polas made a pair of saves and allowed one goal in the final 16:41.
With the loss, the Terriers fall to 0-5 (0-1 NAC) on the season. Thomas will be back in conference action on Saturday, as they travel to Husson at 1:00 PM.
