Box Score WESTON, MA –Regis College cruised to a 16-2 victory over Thomas College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action. The Pride improve to 3-2 on the season, while Thomas falls to 0-4 in 2014.
For Thomas, Gunnar Shelton and Bryan Ferris each recorded goals, with Jordan Marino adding an assist. Carlos Cardona made four saves in net for the Terriers. Sheldon Jones led the Terriers defense with a game-high six groundballs and four caused turnovers. Cardona also added four groundballs.
Nicky Rodrigo had four goals and an assist, while Peter Leighton had three goals and two assists for five points of his own for the Pride in the win.
Breandan Crane picked up his third win of the season while making five saves in the first half of play. D.J. Barrile and Tyler Estes split the last two quarters, combining for four saves.
Regis outshot Thomas at a 42-29 clip and held a 40-23 advantage in groundballs. The Pride won 13-of-22 face-offs. The Regis defense was 18-for-22 on clear attempts, while Thomas went 12-for-20.
The Pride jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Leighton and Ferran before Gunnar Shelton tallied for the Terriers to make it 2-1. The Pride then scored the last three goals of the first quarter, including a pair from Matt Vogan, to take a 5-1 lead at the end of one. Regis tacked on three more in the second quarter and took a commanding 8-1 lead into the break.
Out of the half, Bryan Ferris made it an 8-2 game as he worked a quick give-and-go with Jordan Marino that led to an open shot and a goal. The Pride were undeterred however, as they scored the final eight goals of the game, en route to the 16-2 win.
Thomas continues the search for their first win of the year next Saturday when they travel to Castleton noontime for their first NAC contest of the season.
