Box Score WATERVILLE, ME - The Thomas women's soccer team was unable to maintain a one goal advantage as the University of Maine at Farmington struck for three second half goals in a 3-1 defeat Friday night at Smith Field.
After a relatively quiet start to the game, the Terriers (5-9, 2-4 NAC) were able to get on the board first in the 24th minute, when Bronte Howorth put a left-footed cross to Kristi Hilton who pushed it past Sam Hatch and into the net for the 1-0 lead.
The Thomas lead would hold through the first half despite UMF (5-6, 4-1 NAC) holding an 8-4 shot advantage.
Only seven minutes into the second half, the Beavers were able to notch the tying goal as Sarah Pokorny took a pass from Bridget Humphrey and put it past Thomas goalkeeper Paige Leary to even the score at one apiece.
UMF would strike again eight minutes later when Keli McLellan set up Avalon Amador to quickly give the Beavers a 2-1 lead over Thomas with just under 30 minutes left to play.
The final dagger was put in by UMF in the 89th minute by Alexandra Crocker, with the assist coming from Bridget Humphrey.
Howorth led the way with four shots (one on goal) for Thomas, along with an assist. Hilton scored on her lone shot attempt. Leary notched six saves on nine shots faced on the evening.
The women's soccer team will return to action next on Saturday, October 18, when they will play host to Maine Maritime at 1pm.
