Thomas Splits With Mariners

CASTINE, ME- Thomas split a pair North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball games Tuesday against Maine Maritime. The Terriers blanked the Mariners 5-0 in game one before MMA took the second contest 7-2. Thomas sits at 3-1, 7 2-6 NAC while Maine Maritime is now 7-11 overall, 4-4 NAC.

GAME ONE

Faith Robinson (Auburn, N.H.), who improved to 4-3, fired seven innings of three-hit softball to lead the Terriers in game one, striking out six.

Thomas broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth when Samantha Moore (Etna, Maine) doubled to left field to score Lauren Hachey (Oakland, Maine). McKayla Gastia's (Milford, Maine) double to center later in the inning plated both Moore and Taylor Bergeron (Lyman, Maine) to give Thomas a 3-0 lead.

The Terriers tacked on two more in the fit with a Hachey triple, which scored Ashlee Quirrion (Jay, Maine) , and Hachey touched home on the same play on an error.

Abby Yeo took the loss and fell to 5-5 for Maine Maritime. She struck out nine and walked two.

GAME TWO

Leah Jackson and Cindy Schultz combined to knock in five of the Mariners seven run in the nightcap. Jackson finished 4 for 4 with 3 RBI and Schultz was 2 of 4 with 2 RBI.

Thomas took an early 1-0 lead when Alyssa Eugley (Sidney, Maine) converted a leadoff walk into a run on two sacrifices and an error. The Mariners answered in the bottom of the first when Schultz knocked in Sabrina Keach, Jackson batted home Schultz and Yeo doubled in Jackson to give MMA a 3-1 lead.

A Kelsie Hilton single in the fourth gave the Mariners a 4-1 lead before the Terriers scored in the fifth on a Eugley single.

Schultz's double to to center in the sixth plated Keach before Jackson launched a two-run home run to center field to put the Mariners ahead 7-2.

Erica Taylor picked up the win for Maine Maritime and improved to 3-6. She struck out four and walked two. Robinson took the loss for Thomas.

The Terriers return to action tomorrow as they host crosstown rival Colby at 4pm.
